Latest donation takes total to 323,000 euros

Health Minister Michalis Hadjipantela attended a presentation at Makarios Hospital in Nicosia this morning, where Cans For Kids handed over a Wilaflow Elite Neonatal and Breathing Gas Humidifier MR 850 worth almost 15,000 euros for use in the intensive care ward.

Cans For Kids president Rosie Charalambous said this latest donation took the total value of equipment given to local hospitals since Cans For Kids was founded in 1990 to over €323,000. She added that, with funding from the Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway grants Active Citizens Fund, more can banks were being placed in schools and communities not well served by government recycling schemes, and awareness programmes were ongoing to get more people to recycle. “The more cans we get, the more equipment we will be able to give to our paediatric wards.”

Thanking the charity for its years of support for Cypriot hospitals, the Health Minister noted that “Cans for Kids, with its spirit of volunteering, is a very important and valuable ally of the young patients of Makarios Hospital, always supporting their needs in getting specialized medical equipment and machines”.

Also present was Georgia Lefkaritis, Executive Director of Petrolina (Holdings) Public Ltd. which has been sponsoring the fuel for the charity’s vehicles since 2002. The charity’s president acknowledged that their support was instrumental in enabling Cans For Kids to grow from small beginnings to an island-wide operation; “without their help and support we would struggle to service all our can banks across the island” she said, and reminded that the location of all can banks was available on their website, www.cansforkids.org
