Following the success of last year’s event, Cans For Kids celebrated Earth Day 2015 with another event organised by Microsoft Cyprus. This year we challenged everyone to join us and sort one ton of cans between 10am and 1pm.
The response was even bigger than last year, and the people who turned up enjoyed music from Kiss FM, who did live links, talking to VIP guests and the volunteers. Youngsters also got the chance to win signed footballs and T-shirts kindly donated by Omonia and Apoel football clubs. The Volunteerism Commissioner Yiannis Yiannakis congratulated everyone for their contribution, while the Austrian Ambassador Dr Karl Mueller, who put the event under his auspices, also attended and was impressed by the turn-out. The Head of the EU Commission Representation in Cyprus, George Markopouliotis, also gave his enthusiastic support, donning the rubber gloves to work with everyone sorting cans.
