B Flight, 15 Squadron RAF Regiment, based in Akrotiri, celebrated their 80th anniversary by completing a mammoth simulated journey from Akrotiri to Salalah International Airport in Oman – a total distance of 3,106.8 km – in aid of charity.
Supporting the RAF Benevolent Fund, B Flight chose to share the monies raised with Cans For Kids. “We wanted to give something back to the people of Cyprus, so we decided to share the money raised with this event with a Cypriot Charity” said Officer Commanding B Flight, Flying Officer Ramon Rayner, who visited the Cans For Kids recycling centre with a cohort of his squadron to hand over €860.
The journey was completed in two phases: first, a 244.4Km row on a rowing machine. This simulated a row across the Mediterranean Sea from Cyprus to Beirut. Phase 2 was a 2,862.4Km cycle on a Wattbike, simulating the ride from Beirut through Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Oman until they reached Oman’s International Airport.
Thank you all!
