Donation to Neonatal Intensive Care Ward

Our latest donation of a Dinamap monitor worth more than €3.500 to the neonatal intensive care ward at the Makarios Hospital in Nicosia, brought the total value of equipment donated over the last 30 years to well over a quarter of a million euros!

The funds were raised in May 2017 by Mike Samaras, a long-time supporter of the charity, who reprised a fundraiser he first did in 1995 in memory of his daughter Rebecca: a 24-hour fitness workout. From 10am on May 20th to 10am on May 21st Mike took turns on the exercise machines at The Gym “Koutras Fitness & Personal Training Center” in Makedonitissa, working out alongside people who dropped in to support his efforts.
As he handed over the equipment, Mike said “I hope this monitor will help, and be put to good use at the neonatal clinic.” He added that he had hoped to make more money from the fitathon, but pledged to continue to use the memory of his daughter Rebecca to move him “onwards and upwards”.

As he received the monitor, Hospital Director Dr Andreas Neophytou thanked Cans For Kids for their continuous support over so many years, adding “what this charity does is a shining example of how we should all act as members of society”.
