At a meze evening in May, in the presence of the Austrian and Irish Ambassadors, and the Head of the European Commission Representation in Cyprus, Alexandra Fougala-Metaxas was presented with Cans For Kids’ Volunteer of the Year award, along with a cheque for 100 euros, by Cans For Kids’ President, Olga Demetriades. Alexandra, a pupil at Nicosia’s English School, clocked the most hours over the year 2014 at Saturday can sorting and other events attended by the charity to raise awareness about recycling.
